Dream Job!

Dipesh Patel - Wednesday, December 14, 2011

The first question you might ask, is such a thing possible?

My answer is damn yes! You make that choice and nobody else. But, are you now starting to making the excuse “I have kids, I’ve got bills to pay and I can’t take a risk to do what I LOVE”?  So, let me get this straight, your choice is to be unhappy and spend your life doing something which is second best and no matter how hard you try you will never be exceptional at your job doing something you do NOT love.

If you are in business for yourself, chances are you have made a choice and started doing something you do really love. You are making a major contribution to society and you are helping build the economy both locally and internationally. The small and medium sized business is what keeps the world financial market turning, it’s contribution is so significant that 75% of jobs today in the world are thanks to that small business round the corner.

OK now let me get to that question about your dream job and why I choose this topic for this blog.

Today, Radio2Video, Webidiotz ‘s new marketing and sales division for the radio industry, launched its awesome new website, thanks to the work our team of designers, content writers and great programmers.

It began with a question, “how do I create a dream job for everybody in our company, Webidiotz?”.

This personal and business goal started in late 2008 on the back of a personal disaster, when I lost my home in the UK, and everything I had built over 15 years of being in business.  To add fuel to the fire, at the time I also had 2 kids, a beautiful wife and just only enough money to move countries and start over again. I arrived in Winnipeg after getting vetoed on moving to my first choice, Vernon British Columbia.  But, as the saying goes, things do happen for a reason and I have a lot to be thankful for living here in Winnipeg.

Instead of taking the safe route, I held true to myself and chose the option of starting a business again and took six months of extensive research to decide on what direction to take. The end result? Webidiotz was borne click here to read the story. In short I decided that I would build a company that was built on a WIN:WIN not just for me but my staff, my clients and everybody that was involved in the building of the most successful Internet marketing company in the world...yes...the world.

After almost three years and staying true to that value and principle I am proud to see it becoming reality.  Ah, but it has not come without it’s challenges, mistakes, changes and hiring and firing the wrong or right people and companies. Anybody in business will understand this paragraph and to truly understand it, I encourage you to  read Jim Collins book title Good To Great.

Flight to Calgary with Steve Jobs

Dipesh Patel - Saturday, October 08, 2011

It's been a few days since the death of Steve Jobs the Apple founder and I still feel compelled to write a blog and I don't know why. So here we go....

I'm here sitting on the plane and started to wonder how much has Steve changed our world? How much has he impacted our lives? How did he manage to do so in such a  positive, emotional way?

Here I am writing a blog on him on his creation - the iPad. When I read the shocking news on my iPhone, only after my wife called me from her iPhone after her CBC app which sent her a message of the news that he has passed away.

He might well be dead and we have lost an amazing man, a genius, but he is with us every day. He sits on this flight with me and many more, he travels with us everywhere and he will make billions of people happy every day.

He has and will change more lives than Nelson Mandella, Ghandi, Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and any great leader in our past. Don't take me the wrong way these men are also unforgotten legends who helped shape our future but nothing like Steve Jobs will for decades to come.

His products don't just look damn good in his minimalist way but also the emotional experience of using an Apple product is totally unmatched in any other product from the competition. On my recent cricket trip to Minnesota I spoke to my wife and four kids daily via FaceTime my favorite iPhone feature right now?

Yes I watched my kids in bed with mummy reading bed times books, showed my daughters Issabella, Mackenzie and Amelia the presents I bought them and my wife how hung over my club President Ray was via the FaceTime feature 1000's of miles away from home. FaceTime will go onto to be bigger than email and text message and connects emotionally so much better than both those forms of communication.

How can you beat a live video interaction with another human being? This mode of communication makes email look like an old invention.

This is just one unique feature within the iPad, iPhone and iPod which will go on to change how businesses, families, professionals and children all over the world behave, interact and live in society today.

Its impact so far is so big yet so much more is to come that I can only sit on this flight with excitement as one of his last statements as he resigned as CEO - "the best of Apple is yet to come".

I was a PC user and Blackberry fan but if you want an amazing life changing experience which will increase your productivity professionally and personally, give you joy beyond imagination then right now go and buy any Apple product. Then please come back here and share your experience on my blog and tell me your favorite feature and app.

We can't thank you enough Steve and you'll be remembered forever.

Content, Content, Content!

Dipesh Patel - Friday, May 20, 2011

Content Content Content

If you’ve heard the statement “Location, Location, Location” then you know that it’s what every professional property person says when you’re looking for a home. I should know – I’ve spent 10 years of my life in this industry!

So then, if LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION is a critical factor to consider in making sure you live in the right place, then CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT is just as important for your online business to succeed.

SEO and SMO seem to be popular buzz words, so let me take my new buzz word and add to the mix: C.C.C.

Search Engine Optimization is simple to understand when you take it literally for what it is. It's about being found on search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. This is important, because being on PAGE ONE is how you go about actually making money.

Social Media Optimization is another story. It’s about finding people and engaging them. This is a very VERY important point and because the social media list can be endless, let's just focus on the big three for now: Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Too many so called “internet marketing experts” make SEO and SMO out to be something more complex than the average human being can understand… I say B.S.

I'm here to tell you that SEO and SMO isn’t as complicated as these “experts” make it seem. The only reason they do this is to justify their fee. Now keep in mind that this statement does not apply to the few individuals and companies who are experts; those are the people who deliver a stellar service and provide results.

When selecting a company, be sure to get at least six references from a dozen different companies; places where they’ve managed to work their magic. This is important! Please make sure you do this before you put any of your hard earned money to waste.

Now, a number of elements need to happen consistently every month. These elements will always keep your online business on page one. First and foremost, no degree is required, and you don’t need to be a scientist to make this happen.

Before I jump into my list of things you should do, remember for this blog you have already got a great website with all the elements, like a social media feed, clear contact details on the home page, specific pages for each keyword your trying to drive sales too, a great video, lead capture form etc. If not then doing my list of activities will not pay dividend till you get this done as a baseline to start any form of C.C.C. activity

Back Linking is your first element. Back Linking is simply making sure your site is submitted to online directories. This is important in making sure that there are relevant sites driving quality traffic and ranking to your online business. Do not buy a software program to do this for you, as you may get penalized from search engines and, as a result, your site will drop down in the rankings.

The majority of your success - I would say about 80% - is down to creating fantastic content.

Remember my buzz word C.C.C.? Well, this is my list of C.C.C. for SEO. Now it’s up to you to decide whether to do this yourself or to hire professionals.

VIDEO - create engaging video content. As an example, let’s say that we’re using a florist to create a 12 month video series which includes cooking and wine. The show will focus around the owner’s daughter who loves to cook. Every month she’ll cook a different dish, along with her mother who owns a very successful florist shop. We would then highlight what type of flower arrangements would go well with that particular meal, as well as a suggestion for a great wine.

E-NEWSLETTERS - Create content that drives users back to your online business. Include a great offer in your newsletter that will create and drive spontaneous purchases.

BLOGS - Become an expert in your industry. Include people, features, the benefits of your product and how to use it, what not to do, what to look out for, etc. Each blog is worth at least one sale a year minimum.

NEWS UPDATES - Update your visitors about new things happening in your business: new staff, staff birthdays, new customers and products, and price changes.

TESTIMONIAL - every month you should include one video testimonial for your site. This will help you start to convert more traffic into sales.

Engage on social media. Don’t sell at your first, second, third or fourth attempt! Provide solutions to problems and make friends just like you would in the offline world. Be yourself and instead of worrying about making money, focus on engaging in meaningful networking… and remember to have fun! You have to seek these people out, they’re not looking for you like people do on Google.

This is my list of CCC for SMO:

Facebook - run competitions and ask fans how they feel about their shopping experience. If you’re confident about your business, ask about what else they would like to see and how you can improve upon their overall shopping experience. Offer good advice and provide exclusive offers that no one can receive unless they’re a Facebook fan. Join relevant groups and repeat the same scenario as you continue to build genuine relationships.

Twitter - 140 characters of YOU, how your feeling, what you have to offer. Re-tweet things you like and get involved in conversations; all you have to do is utilize the search feature. If you’re a jeweler with wedding band offers too good for anyone to pass up, you’ll want to search the word ‘ENGAGED’ and make friends with new engaged couples. Send them an e-card with a 10% discount. How’s that for an easy sale?!

YouTube - You need to be creative here. While using video is a very different way to generate interest and it’s easy to see the YouTube sensations, you have to remember that this may not always be the case. The goal is to create content about questions people ask on your Facebook page. Let’s consider this: “What is a fixed term mortgage?” You’d take that question and create a 60 second video explaining what a fixed term mortgage is all about. And remember to reference the person who asked the question in the first place. Do this every month and like a blog being worth a sale a year… a video is worth at least 2.

You can do this all yourself, but let’s be honest, not everyone is cut out for this personal commitment. And while you might not have the experience or the time, you should go ahead and find a local professional company or individual who has proven they can get results!

One very important element to remember – this is not a one month get rich quick type of plan. You need to be patient. Expect small positive results by six months and every month afterward should build up from there. At some point between 6 to 12 months your online marketing plan should be a very profitable one.
You want your online business to succeed and just having a website is no longer a viable option. Your customers want the full shopping experience, so utilize your new found knowledge and service them online!

Remember C.C.C - CONTENT, CONTENT, CONTENT.

Do you have any great content ideas you’ve experimented with? Positive or negative results, I welcome them all!

Google Music Search Engine India for Bollywood Lovers

Media Optimizer - Friday, December 03, 2010
If you are the Bollywood lovers and want to the latest songs at one place Google launches new music search engine for India to provide this features. It is not a separate website it is just another features included in the Google India and you can excess this feature at http://www.google.co.in/music .

It is basically approaches the popular Indian music search engine Guruji.com. With the help of Google music search engine if you want to get a single song with the name like “all is well” it gives the song with the movie name. After click on this you can directly listen that song.

The result basically comes from there partner website like in.com and saavan.com. There are several drawbacks and it is not very good as like Guruji.com and other music website. There is no option for downloading the songs through result. If you want to quick listen the popular songs it is the best option. It basically helps to piracy problem.  Approx 1 year ago, Google launched a music search engine in the USA with the partner websites MySpace and Lala and other (currently it shut down) http://www.google.com/landing/music/.

The main difference in the USA and Indian music Search Engine, Google only plays previews for songs for USA and not full track. Currently it runs on internet very well.

Fractal World

The world is a fractal place everywhere we turn we see use and experience it effects.Fractals show up as geometric shapes that repeat themselves infinitely on a smaller scale and one of the biggest uses is on CGI and video games. As early as 1872 fractals were recognized but not yet from a mathematical sense formulated. Finally in 1975 Benoit Mandelbrot had been able to construct a computer generated fractal along with his mathematical formula to support it.Nowadays fractals are weaving their way into our everyday life.Businesses are intergrating fractal business models to better connect with consumers and partners in their respective fields.A popular use of  business fractals is its use within marketing.Fractal marketing is a strategy that webidiotz employs which in terms of longevity has a much better shelf life span than say that of viral marketing which relys on a hook or a gimmick. From a photography perspective the possibilities are endless as seen in my example photo.I used the main photo to create a fractal by employing a mirroring software effect which can be folded on to itself infinately. So in closing keep an eye out for fractal examples in your vicinty they can be even in your food broccoli being a good example of it.

Family Vacation Part 3

Media Optimizer - Monday, November 01, 2010

So if you remember last month I left off with the first weekend in Airdie with my brother and we are going to go to the new mall “Cross Iron Mall”

The day starts off with breakfast then showers and by lunch time we are all ready to go, Niki by brothers girlfriend has decided not to come with us, she hates crowds.

Kalvin said we have to start at the Bass Pro Shop it is awesome, and man was he right. We walk in the front doors and the stuffed wildlife was just amazing the first thing you see is a huge buffalo. As you continue to walk through the store they have every kind of animal from polar bears to chipmunks. My favourite scene is of a pack of wolves hunting a herd of Caribou they have it coming down the side of a mountain. So long story short if you are ever in Calgary it is a must to go see the Bass Pro Shop, you will not be disappointed.

We walked through the entire mall and you know the detail that went into the design and build of this mall is amazing. It shows many aspects of many different cultures and let’s face it that’s what Canada is all about.

Well I would have to say the first weekend was a great success, we saw all of my family which includes my mom, dad, step mom, 2 sisters, 2 brothers and my uncle and aunt.

Let me tell you something 5am sure comes early, the first few mornings was a little tuff to get out of bed but we did. Our day starts with skype meetings with our team members and the skype meeting with Neil.

The whole working vacation was working out well, we were able to get everything done we needed to, and even saw a client that was in Calgary. The days went by very fast and the evenings were filled with more visits with my family or chilling with my brother.

So the weekend finally came that we were going to take in the Calgary Stampede, the kids were excited. If you have never been to the Stampede well I would have to say it sure puts the Ex here in Winnipeg to shame.

Check out this picture of just the midway, there are more free things to look at and free shows then you will ever have time for in one day.

Our day started at 6am, we wanted to get down to the grounds early enough to take in the free pancake breakfast. We have never gone on Family day before, if you are at the gates before 10am you get in for free and the first 20,000 people get the free pancake breakfast.

Well you probably have already guessed this was not our first visit to the Stampede, we try to go every year we go to Calgary. So this year we decided that we would not go on any rides that this year we would take in as many free shows as we could.

The first one we went to see was the super dogs, it was an ok show but the location had changed from the years before and this location was not as good. There were big pillars in the way of our view and it didn’t matter where you sat they were in the way. It didn’t sit as many people either so you had to get the free tickets in advance. After that it was off to the 6 horse hitch but they were just finishing, bummer what we saw was cool.

So now it was time to see the hypnotist, this guy is so funny. He had a guy think that ever time he touched him anywhere he would start to bleed and then he would ask for a band aid. By the time he was done this guy had a band aids on his tongue, eyes, lips, forehead, chin and neck he was covered very funny and a must see. He has been there for as long as I can remember.

Now it was time to eat, we all walked down the midway trying to decide what to eat, the kids had chicken fingers and fries, I had a Bar B que beef on a bun (the best I have ever had), and I think Donna had a foot long hot dog.

So we took in a few more shows the Indian village and had to have some mini donuts cuz everyone knows you can’t leave with out having mini donuts.

We didn’t have to late of a night remember 5am comes very early and Kalvin had to work the next day as well. A few days later we found out there was over 160,000 people that went to the Stampede on family day.

The rest of the week flew by and before we knew it, it was time to leave we still hadn’t had time to see some of the family so we decided to talk Neil and Nina and see if we could stay for another week. They said it had been working out so far on our working vacation so they didn’t mind if we stayed for another week. Kalvin was very happy.

I did another day at the Stampede the next weekend with just Kalvin and the kids, we had lots of fun and ya know there was a lot less people.

So by the end of our working vacation we had been there for a total of 23 days and it was the morning we had to leave L

I like hello’s way better then good byes.

I hope you enjoyed reading about how a working vacation can work, we sure like going on it.

Happy Halloween!

Media Optimizer - Friday, October 29, 2010

I hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween, with all the little trick or treaters out and about.

As I creep up on the age of 40, I sometimes look back on life, and wonder how time sometimes passes us by so rapidly.

Being a child and growing up in the country, we always went trick or treating around the neighborhood.  Of course being country kids, that always involved getting in and out of the car, and driving miles in an evening, as our neighbors were a little farther away than just a city block.  However it was usually worth the trip as from one house you would get a lunch bag full of candy, and within 8 or 10 houses your Halloween bag was usually about as full as it could get.

Of course as you get a little older, you out grow the candy thing, and move onto the tricking part of Halloween.  When I was a kid it was a lot more harmless than it is today.  I recall a beautiful Halloween, when we only required a sweatshirt, and myself, my closest brother and sister, hopped on our peddle bikes and headed 2 miles over to our neighbors dairy farm to do some pranking.

It was all very harmless stuff, like putting his wheel barrel on top of his hay stack, piling chop pales in front of his barn door, and rearranging his work shop, so he couldn’t find his calendars, with all his pretty, partially clothed ladies.   He kindly repaid us by coming over and spray painting the words WET PAINT on one of our milk cows, which was definitely a unique prank.

I look at the Halloween that is creeping up on this weekend with the forecast for some cold weather, and certainly miss a day like that.  Sometimes you don’t realize how quickly time goes by, as I look back on a day like that, and it feels like yesterday.  Now 25+ years later, 22 neices and nephews, who some are grown and involved in their own relationships as well.  Sometimes it makes you think that you blinked and missed something, but maybe it is just an indication that life is just very full, and I am blessed.

Just my thought for the day, and hope everyone has a Happy Halloween.

Har Ki Dun Trekking

Media Optimizer - Friday, October 29, 2010

I wanted to do Har Ki Dun trekking in 2008 with lots of snow. Normally people do Har Ki Dun from April-September/October . At the time the greenery of Har Ki Dun is very enchanting.   We have to come in post-monsoon to believe this. John (My friend)  is a brave man , he trekked alone everywhere. But I don’t have that courage so as always I tossed this plan in my office . John is as enthusiastic as me with believe that every things are possible if planned properly. Next thing is to get a good guide . We get a good guide Kharag Singh who assure us about the trek possibility in winters. Now we have plan everything. Then we prepare a master list of useful items. Accommodation, we talked with guide, he said it will arranged in GMVN all the way to Har Ki Dun.

Day 1 : New Delhi -DehraDoon (Train)

We have 3 heavy bag of foods plus everybody has their own individual luggage and sleeping bags. The centre point was to meet at my home, we booked taxi at last moment seeing that the luggage won’t be possible in Auto. Luckily we got taxi and reached New Delhi Railway Station at 3:15 PM. Train is schedule to leave on 3:25 PM. Somehow we managed to put our luggage in place and then all set to climb the hills.
We reached Dehradoon around 10 PM , we called our Taxi Driver Harpreet Singh, which we have booked in advance. He came to pick us at Railway station and help us find a good and cheap hotel . We take dinner quickly and came to bed. John' s plan was to start at 4 AM next day so as to reach Taluka (11 Kms from Sankri) on that very day.
I know its not possible in group of  people, everybody has their own style to wake up and nobody  wakeup at 4AM in winter.

 Day 2 ( DehraDoon - Sankri )

Not 4 Am but we managed to start at 6 AM . After breakfast it was already 7. We reached Mussorie around 9 AM .

The route map is :
Delhi
àDehradoon à Mussorieà Nainbagà Naugaonà Damtaà Purolaà Morià SankriàHar ki Dun.

We reached Mori at 2 and after some quick lunch we headed for Sankri. We know its getting late.  Finally we reached at 4 PM and met our guide Kharag Singh. He told us its not possible to go Taluka today as it will be dark pretty soon and it would take at least 2 hrs to reach so decided to stay in Sankri.
After taking Dormitory in GMVN we looked for other arrangement done by Guide (Kerosene, Stove, vegetables, eggs, utensils and some extra rice, pulses and flour.
It getting chilled by evening, we did simple dinner and back to beds. This is our first night in hills, and we start thinking what’s happen at Har Ki Dun. Everybody slept in full gears socks, monkey caps, and gloves.

Day 3 ( Sankri - Taluka)

We slept with a promise to start the trek at 8 AM but with groups you can't .  Their is always some late comers . The weather is bright and sunny . For all our luggage, the guide say it would take 7 porters!!! , that costs so much per day plus their foods also.
I quickly asked Guide for the Pony. Guide was not in a mood for that, and then I decided to go to the village and look for pony myself. Finally I got the pony in 200 per day.
Har ki dun is becoming a very popular trekking destination. If you have luggage do take pony , even if you are going in winter you can take pony till Seema although at some places you will find ICE but pony guy will manage. Do take guide if you are going in some off season, there are so many village en-route and you might lost the way.
One more thing I noticed do talk in advance these guys are smart they charged you on  arav(destination) basis . Suppose you  do Sakri-Seema in one day(possible if start at 7 AM) porter will charge you for double .  The first 4 Kms was done by Jeep . We started at 10 AM. Reached Taluka at 2 :30 PM checked-in at GMVN nothing to do . Fortunately Taluka has a functioning dhaba so we had lunch, dinner and again in full gears at around 9 PM.

Day 4 ( Taluka - Seema )

10:10 AM seems to be perfect time for our start. Every night we slept with a promise to start the next trek at 8 AM . Weather was so chilly that nobody came out of their bed early. Then breakfast. Today's trek as the guide said is going to be a bit tough .The normal Taluka-Seema route is broken so we have to trek via Dhatmeer which is on some height. Meaning we have to trek up and then down.
Crossing Dhatmeer we encountered first snow and icy path, everybody was glad to see snow atlas. As usual trek goes like a roller-coaster way up/down, we took some break prepared Glucose, had some chocolates etc . We met a Dutch couple who was coming from HKD, they told us that they abort the plan because of deep snow and weather. That scared us a bit but we have firm believe that we can make it . We met many villagers on the way to Osla(Seema) . In January the path are going to closed due to heavy snowfall so the people are stocking the food items.
We reached Gangad village at around 4 PM, weather turned cloudy and according to villagers it might rain/snowfall. We are not prepared for any rainfall so speed-up , some local's say that you would reach Seema around 7 PM. and its dark. So again we speed-up. 500 meters before Seema we faced the longest stretch of ice (bar-glass) . Somewhere it is inclined, it was really difficult to cross that, some of us hold the mountain side and then put the steps on pebbles.
Finally we reached Seema at 6 PM. It was already dark. Pony and porters has already arrived and they prepared hot tea, a fire place was already up. It was getting chill as the night progressed. Seema is on the opposite side of Osla village. Seema has just a GMVN TRH and few hotels, today it was all deserted as this is not the tourist season.
Everybody had dinner. End of a tiring day. Tomorrow the last and most important league of  trek.

Day 5 ( Seema – Har Ki Dun )

I woke up at 7 AM, just to check the weather from balcony. It's all cloudy, not good sign for trek.
I asked porters to prepare hot water.
Pony will not work after Seema , so we hire 3 more porters from Osla village. We started at 10:30 AM . Weather is all cloudy no mountain peaks are visible today. After an hour of climb it started snow fall anyway we keep marching. At Kalkati Dhar ( 7 Kms from Seema) Guide asked us to return as now the snow fall is heavy and visibility is getting lower. We said no and asked them to keep moving. After Kalkati dhar the path is all in snow , 2 feet deep .
Snow fall is getting heavier, with low visibility .We keep on moving it relatively easy as compared to ice to walk on snow. Thankfully  no ice laden path in route.
Its 3:30 , everybody was hungry on relying on chocolates, no sign of weather getting clear, we keep marching ahead , we don’t have any proper lunch , we have to strive on biscuit, chocolates, toffee and glucose .
At 5 PM we finally saw a marking "Welcome to Har Ki Dun" on a rock. This is the entrance of valley. Weather is getting better, a nice little wind is taking clouds away, we saw blue sky finally, sun is welcoming us at Har Ki Dun.

That moment looks like GOD himself is greeting us at Har Ki Dun with clear weather.
All were happy to enter in valley looks very beautiful in all snow, Its a life time experience for us to reach here in December end.
At Har Ki Dun its 4 feet of snow, the GMVN TRH is another kilometer from the welcome point. Its getting chiller, everybody to sit around the fire place. Finally we reached TRH at 6 PM.
